Crucial Component

The Letter ofInvitation (LOI)

A Letter of Invitation (LOI) is a formal document issued by a registered Pakistani tour operator. It is the single most critical document required for the vast majority of Pakistan E-Visa applications.

The LOI explicitly states that K2 Expeditions & Trekking is officially sponsoring your visit. It guarantees that we take responsibility for your logistical arrangements, safety, and adherence to local regulations during your stay in Gilgit-Baltistan or other regions.

Restricted Area Permits

For treks like K2 Base Camp, the government requires us to process a specific permit on your behalf locally. This cannot be done without an LOI and entering on a dedicated Trekking Visa.

Common Questions

Frequently AskedQuestions

Everything you need to know about securing your Pakistan E-Visa.

Can I get a Trekking Visa without a Tour Operator?+
No. Trekking visas for restricted areas (Baltoro, K2 BC) strictly require an official LOI and sponsorship from a registered tour operator in Pakistan like us, along with a licensed local guide.
How early should I apply for my visa?+
For standard Tourist Visas, 3-4 weeks is sufficient. However, for Trekking and Expeditions Visas, we strongly recommend applying 6-8 weeks prior to your arrival due to the thorough security clearance process.
Does K2ET charge for the LOI?+
If you have booked a trek or expedition with us, the LOI is provided completely free of charge as part of your package. For independent travelers seeking only an LOI, specialized consulting fees apply.
Is the Visa fee refundable if rejected?+
Visa application fees paid to the NADRA portal are generally non-refundable, regardless of the outcome.
Do I need a Helicopter Rescue Bond?+
If you are applying for a Mountaineering/Expedition Visa for peaks over 6,500m, yes. The processing requires proof of a helicopter rescue bond (usually $10,000-$15,000 via Askari Aviation). Tourist and standard Trekking Visas do not require this.
Can I change my itinerary after receiving the LOI?+
Minor changes (like hotel adjustments) are usually fine, but significant structural changes (like changing your trek route from an open zone to a restricted zone) may cause issues. Always consult us first.
Are there nationalities exempt from E-Visas?+
Pakistan offers a visa-on-arrival or visa-free entry for a select few countries, but this changes frequently. We always advise checking the official NADRA portal. Almost all Western passports require the E-Visa.
What is the NOC (No Objection Certificate)?+
The NOC is an internal government clearance required for foreigners entering restricted zones. We apply for this locally in Skardu or Islamabad after your visa is approved, using your passport copies and LOI details.
Can I apply for a Trekking Visa upon arrival?+
No. All Trekking and Mountaineering Visas must be applied for and approved electronically *before* you board your flight to Pakistan.
How long is the LOI valid for?+
Our LOI is valid specifically for the dates and duration of the itinerary we provided you. We usually pad the dates slightly to account for flight delays, but it is not valid for indefinite use.
